Motorola Reveals New Eco-Friendly IPTV Set-tops at IBC 2009

Motorola introduces additions to VIP series IPTV set-tops, compliant with latest environmental regulatory standards and recommendations for lower energy consumption and featuring recyclable packaging

September 10, 2009

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – IBC 2009 - September 10, 2009 - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), today announced the latest additions to its Home & Networks Mobility business’ VIP series IPTV set-top portfolio, introduced to help service providers and consumers lower their carbon footprint. The flexible high definition (HD) set-tops are compliant with new US and EU initiatives for low-power consumption devices in the home, featuring next-generation power management capabilities for lower energy consumption.

In addition to delivering high-quality digital video products, Motorola is committed to being part of the solution to climate change and to reducing the environmental footprint of its products, operations and supply chain as well as helping consumers to reduce their environmental footprints when using its products. At its IBC 2009 stand #1.F30, Motorola will exhibit the new VIP series set-tops in low-power modes. The set-tops surpass the latest required power consumption regulations and standards, which include the US body ENERGY STAR and the EU’s Eco-Design Directives for Energy-using Products (EuPs).

The Motorola VIP2202E, VIP2262E, VIP1002E, VIP1003 and VIP19xx series set-tops are all compliant with the European Commission’s Code of Conduct (CoC) v8. CoC v8 defines three different operating modes for complex set-tops – ‘standby’, ‘auto power down’, and ‘on’. Depending on models and the market in which they are deployed, all of the Motorola units are compliant with ENERGY STAR and European CoC recommendations.

“We are continually looking for ways to improve the environmental profile of our products, as well as running our operations in a safe and energy-efficient manner,” stated Keith Kelley, vice president and general manager, EMEA and Asia Pacific set-tops, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “Motorola’s VIP series set-tops represent our commitment to being part of the solution to climate change, as well as address our customers’ interest in reducing their environmental impact, while offering compelling products that will help them grow their eco-conscious customer base.”

In the development of its next-generation VIP series set-tops, Motorola has also focused on packaging and recycling enhancements. The set-tops are available in single bulk pack boxes – eliminating the use of suspension plastic and reducing box size – thereby reducing waste and the environmental impact of their shipment. The packaging is 100 percent recyclable and is marked with standard recycling codes to make it easier for our customers to identify recycling opportunities.
